Two Stroke Repacking Instructions

*To repack your LRD two stroke silencer, you will need an 8mm socket, soft mallet, wire brush and high temperature RTV silicone.

Remove the four screws from the silencer's front end-cap with an 8mm socket.

A few gently taps on the frame mount may be needed to remove the front end-cap.
With the end-cap off, remove any old packing that remains in the muffler.
Remove the muffler core from the old packing.
A wire brush can be used to remove exhaust reside from the core.
With the core set in the end-cap, slide the re-pack kit over it.
Slide the re-pack kit completely onto the core. Remove the paper tube.
At this point, the core should be about 1" inside the pillow.
With the kit mounted on the core, slide it into the silencer shell
With the core aligned in both end-caps, push the end-cap into the muffler shell.
A few soft taps with a mallet may be required to completely seat the end-cap once the core is centered in both end-caps.
To keep water out of the silencer, apply a small amount of high temperature silicone to seam between the end-caps and the silencer shell.
Work the silicone into the seam and wipe the area clean with a towel.

Silencer Packing FAQs

Q How often should I re-pack?
A We recommend that you service your packing every 30 engine hours for optimal power and noise performance.

Q Does packing last longer in a two stroke or four stroke?
A Packing lasts longer in two strokes because their exhaust gas temperatures are lower. The higher temperatures from four stroke engines degrade glass faster.

Q Will re-packing give me more power?
A Yes. The silencer is part of the tuned length and volume of your complete exhaust system. When it's missing packing, back pressure increases which hurts throttle response and overall horsepower.

Q I've noticed that my quad is getting louder. What will cause this?
A A few things can cause this. If you have a two stroke, the packing may be saturated with oil and it will need to be replaced. This same oil & carbon saturation can plug the holes in your core which can lead to an increase in volume. If the packing is partially or completely blown out, it will gradually become louder and needs to be replaced.

Q Which end-cap do I remove to get to the packing?
A Your LRD two stroke silencer features a floating core that is not welded to either end cap. Start by removing the front end and remove the other end if that will help in getting old packing or aligning the core during reassembly.
